Ugani Prosthetics, Driven by innovation

Prothea Kenya is the local branch of Ugani Prosthetics, a Belgian social enterprise dedicated to transforming prosthetic care through innovation and accessibility.

Over the past years, Ugani has developed an innovative digital (3D) workflow which enables orthopaedic technologists to lower the cost of their devices while increasing the quality. With impactful projects across Benin, Ghana, Asia, and the launch of a new workshop in the Democratic Republic of Congo (2024), Ugani continues to expand access to affordable prosthetic solutions.

Since its founding, Prothea Kenya has been utilizing this 3D workflow to produce custom prosthetic devices locally in Nairobi—delivering advanced, affordable care to patients across the region.

Meet Our Team

Dr. Nick Were

Co-Founder & Director, Orthopaedic Surgeon

Nick, co-founder and orthopedic surgery resident, is committed to patient-centered care and enhancing the multidisciplinary approach to patient management. Practicing at Kenyatta National Hospital and other hospitals in Kenya, he is focused on integrating 3D technology into his practice to improve access to quality, inclusive orthopedic care for all Kenyans.

Florian Vallaeys

Co-Founder & Director

Florian, co-founder of Ugani Prosthetics, has built a strong entrepreneurial mindset through years of working in startups. He led the launch of Prothea Kenya as a subsidiary of Ugani, and aids in driving its growth to expand access to prosthetic care for underserved patients.

Belinda Adhiambo

Head of Operations

Belinda is a passionate disability advocate with over four years of experience in inclusion-focused advocacy. At Prothea Kenya, she oversees daily operations to ensure individuals with amputations receive vital prosthetic care and rehabilitation. With lived experience and strong leadership, Belinda champions dignity, mobility, and inclusion—empowering persons with disabilities and driving meaningful change in healthcare and beyond.

Amos Wafula

Chief Prosthetist

Amos brings nine years of experience in prosthetics and orthopedic technology, specializing in patient care, patient management, and community-based rehabilitation. He has a strong track record of successful outcomes and is dedicated to improving the quality of life for individuals in need of prosthetic support.

Geoffrey Maragia

Control Engineer

Jeff is a versatile controls engineer and techie. He’s spent years blending his technical expertise with hands-on innovation across a wide range of disciplines. Whether it's solving complex engineering problems, building custom electronics, or bringing unique ideas to life with 3D printing, he’s the go-to person for turning challenges into solutions—with a bit of fun along the way.
